Forester Resources

Foresters ​a​re a vital part of the Maine Tree Farm Program​ and are involved with everything from ​developing forest management plans that meet our Sustainability Standards to conducting site inspections and offering valuable advice to family forest owners on responsible forestry practices. With more than 100 Inspecting Foresters on board, the Maine Tree Farm Program ​boasts a strong community of forestry professionals to guide landowners during their Stewardship Storyline.

I want to be an Inspector Forester

To become an Inspecting Forester, you must meet the American Tree Farm System's eligibility requirements and contact the Program Coordinator to be entered into the American Tree Farm System database.

I am an Inspecting Forester

To refresh your training, log in to the American Tree Farm System database and on the left hand menu column, select Take Online Training. If you require assistance, contact the Program Coordinator.

My Inspector Credential has lapsed

The American Tree Farm System's Sustainability Standards include guidance statements to clarify the Standard's intent and its practical application.

I have a question about my Inspector Credential

Contact the Program Coordinator for any questions or issues regarding Inspecting Forester trainings, the American Tree Farm System database, or for more information.

Inspection Form

The American Tree Farm System's Tree Farm Inspection Record confirms compliance with the Sustainability Standards.

Incentive Form

Maine Tree Farm Program Inspecting Foresters must complete this form to receive the stipend for completing a Tree Farm inspection.

Standards & Guidance

The American Tree Farm System's Sustainability Standards include guidance statements to clarify the Standard's intent and its practical application.

Plan Addendum

The American Tree Farm System Management Plan Addendum can support a family forest owner's management plan in demonstrating conformance to the Standards.

No FORI in Maine

After careful consideration and research, the Maine Tree Farm Committee has determined that NO Forests of Recognized Importance (FORI) Currently Exist in the State of Maine

No Harassment Policy

We are committed to ensuring a safe environment for all of our volunteers, partners, contractors, staff, landowners, and others involved in the American Tree Farm System (ATFS).

Active Credentials

Maine Tree Farm Program Inspecting Foresters must must undergo training or complete one inspection, at a minimum, every two years to remain in “active” status and be able to conduct inspections.

Forester Training Policy

In order to ensure the Standards of Sustainability are being met and that landowners are receiving the expertise necessary to remain good stewards, inspectors must receive and maintain their ATFS required training.

Conflict of Interest

A landowner shall not inspect his or her own property. Direct employees of a company may only inspect their company’s property through written permission by the State Tree Farm Committee.
