Program Requirements
1
Have at least 10 contiguous acres of wooded land
Allowances exist for including areas like food plots, water resources (lakes, ponds, streams), Christmas tree farms, orchards, and other non-forested regions as long as they are integrated into the forest system. If you are unsure if you meet the minimum required acreage, contact your county chair.
2
Have a written Forest Management Plan that aligns with our Sustainability Standards
Management plans can take many forms and should clearly outline the landowner's land management goals. To align with the American Tree Farm System's Sustainability Standards, a forest management plan must cover forest health, soil, water, wood and fiber production, threatened or endangered species, special sites, invasive species, and forests of recognized importance.
3
Steward your Tree Farm in alignment with our wood, water, wildlife, and recreation values.
Landowners are encouraged to develop and retain documents related to their management activities. Continued compliance with the Sustainability Standards is confirmed through site visits. These scheduled inspections are at no cost to the Tree Farmer.
